1018 is a medium-low carbon steel that is one the most commonly available of the cold-rolled steel alloys. Chemically, it is very similar to A36 Hot Roll steel, but the cold rolling process creates a better surface finish and better welding and machinability. It is an excellent choice for fixtures, jigs, shafting and other machine parts.
